Lake Michigan Ride—Day 3

Mears, MI —Manistee, MI: 60 miles

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

Today was a long and challenging ride for me.
Five miles longer than advertised,
Because breakfast cafe was five mile round trip out of way.
AND ... Nobody wants to miss breakfast!

All riding was on small highways,
Many hills,
Head wind at least half of time.
Hard Work.

(I'll happily get back to trails)

I started from breakfast on my own.
48 degrees to start—mighty chilly!
Five miles out JG joined me.
He is a retired railroad engineer who drove trains—
Ridden with Nancy and Ken Wright groups for eight years.

JG is practiced at reading route sheet.
I had his help in being sure to follow right roads.
PLUS later in day when I was dragging,
Encouraged with food stops, positive words,
Frequent motivating to finish point.

I've always ridden with helpful people.
This is first time I have really RELIED on help extended,
To pull me through portion of ride day.

Photos today are sparse.
Camera malfunction meant not much recorded.

Dinner was at "House of Flavors.”
Those flavors are ice cream.
Creative combos with some
Creative presentations.

I am fine.
Someone asked me about my day,
Which I reported as “very challenging.”
Person asked, “Are you happy now?”
Answer is, "Yes, I am happy."

Hard day, okay day.
With lots of help, I have done today's ride,
And am happy.

Love to each of you, Lin

I am hoping today is a little easier day – but so glad there was a friend to encourage you and be sure that you were on the right roads. A long, hard day would be worse if you took wrong turns. Tell him thanks from me and that I know Locomotive Engineers can be helpful. 🙂 Best wishes for wind at your back today.

I’ll pass on your message of appreciation, Naurine! Today has been better—your good wishes worked. 🙂
