Lake Michigan Ride—Day 2

Muskegon—Silver Lake, MI: 40 miles

Monday, June 4, 2018

**The Milwaukee trail in yesterday's photos is
Actually called "Hank Aaron" trail.
I think my typo misnamed it as “Nike.”

Today we're housed in motel located in low area.
I walked to top of hill to get message sent out.
Funny standing beside highway,
Trucks barreling by,
Cell phone held to sky.

Ride today was 90% on bike trails.
I like not having to watch for motorized traffic,
Just pedal and view scenery.

Margaret just told me she likes a trail for awhile,
Then that kind of riding gets boring.
Like anything in life, each to her own.

On trail this morning about 9am,
I rode behind Nancy.
Because she set route...
Easy to be on right road.

There was one area where a trail connection
Had been completed recently.
Nancy took those new possibilities....
Even more off road riding,
Hence the 90% trail.

Some trail was SO NEW,
I think we were first to put tires to pavement.
Should have a plaque!

On this ride trip,
Lunch is tailgate food on back of
Ford 150, used to carry luggage, food, equipment.
Food options were great today,
Especially after riding 29 miles.

Truck was in a parking lot.
Today's highlight was that it was parking lot of
"Country Dairy Farm Store.”

Farm has been in family more than 100 years.
Now has store, lunchroom, gives tours.
It is famous for "all you want to drink" milk.

Options are 2%, skim, chocolate....
Fill the glass as often as you choose.
I paid for the glass for milk, 12 oz for one dollar,
Plus paid for the 16 oz cup for coffee for $1.50,
Partially filled each,
Poured them into each other.
Delicious!

Someone asked me how the coffee was.
No idea!
The unlimited combo was excellent!

Trail today had multiple art installations.
Fun to see what excellent art enhances trail.
Nancy and I stopped at several.

Here I am having completed
First Real Ride Day.
I had a good time.
Plenty ready to get to destination,
And pleased with each mile pedaled.

Hugs to each of you,
Lin

What a refreshing “latte” – so creative and energizing. I enjoyed seeing the art pieces. And glad the riding was without the worries of a busy road. Onward!
