St. Ignace—Newberry, MI: 65 miles
(I rode 41...)
Tuesday, June 12, 2018
Today's ride was 65 miles.
I rode 41 miles.
The first thirty of those miles were wonderful,
Not much elevation change,
Excellent pavement, low traffic,
Cool, sunny weather.
At about thirty miles
Left knee got so sore.
At lunch stop / lunch on truck tail gate,
I asked to put bike in truck,
Me in passenger seat.
That was HARD for me to do!
Since I felt better walking / standing,
Knew I could ride another five miles at least.
Biggest hard thing was admitting I needed help.
I do NOT want to be pegged as unable to do this ride.
My standard for myself is hoping
My riding will demonstrate we aging folks
Can "stay the course.”
What I know is that my decision
To end MY ride at 41 miles,
Rest knee so that tomorrow I can bike again.
Is SMART.
Modifying,
Respecting body's messages,
Doing the task at that day's level,
Can keep me part of the activity.
You can hear me preaching to myself.
Maybe it is relevant in something YOU want to keep doing,
The accepting that
Modification keeps you / us
Playing and happy.
Hugs to each of you, Lin
Limerick:
I don't like the fact that my changes,
Can shorten my bicycle ranges.
I'm LUCKY to ride!
Just swallow my Pride.
Avoid thoughts that can cause deranges.

Wise choice!! And thoughtful comments. Thanks. Naurine
Glad they hit the mark. Sometimes I think I’m the only one struggling with a thing, then I remember how universal it is. We’re all getting older, no matter what our age. Let’s make it as good a journey as it can be!
Sorry to learn about your knee but big athletes always have some issue. It will get better. Anyway 41 miles was a great achievement. Keep smiling! Hugs.
Smiling… I like that. “Big athletes.” Thanks, Irene! 🙂
Thanks for all the cimmunications. Lin……
