Momentary Reprieves

Wednesday, May 1, 2024

To live with the hard wind that’s blowing,
You must be intent on the “going.”
And may you receive
Some micro-reprieve,
That morphs knock-down times into “flowing.”

Can you savor life’s momentary reprieves?

Out on a training ride with
WIND!
Fierce, strong, battering.
In my face, and into my right side,

Wind several times taking control of my bike,
So that I felt I would splat onto road.
Those times I got off and walked,
Calling the walking, “cross-training,”
When really it was Self-Preservation.

Because my turn-around point,
Was the delivery place for several items,
I wasn’t turning back.

During those challenging miles,
I noticed the micro-relief when
Grove of trees,
Group of farm buildings,
Rise in ground level along road,
Gave a few moments of relief,
Blocking the wind for those seconds.

Momentary reprieve from battering.

I often see the metaphor for
Life-off-the bike in my rides.

I was seeing the parallel of
Momentary reprieve
In Life’s battering times.

A pause in the shade,
A quiet place midst chaos,
A caring listener,
A word of encouragement,
A genuine smile from passerby,
A place of authentic acceptance.

Moving through bike-ride challenge,
Or through life’s fierce Winds,
Momentary reprieve from battering
Lets us move on down the road.
One little bit at a time.

My out-going ride took two hours,
Returning with wind-at-my-back—
Forty-five minutes.

Life is like that sometimes.

Hugs,
Lin

Oh so true – this limerick was spot on! I will think of that next time I am riding or blading in the the wind rather than just being frustrated ;0)

Hi Lin, Welcome back! YES! The wind you described reminded us of the Roberts family ranchin homesteads in Wyo. where the wind blows furioiusly at times. The climate in Wyoming is definitely notfriendly “although the skies are not cloudy all day.”

You made me smile, Jan—-you are so right. Plenty of sun AND an abundance of strong winds in Wyoming!!! 🙂

Lin,
I agree! My spring ‘2024 bicycle riding is using these winds… I also enjoy the training technique of riding INTO the wind, and have a refreshing push afterwards!

Good luck as you prepare for your late May ride.
Pat
