Capricious, Heavy Duty Wind

Monday, May 9. 2022
Des Moines to Marshalltown, Iowa: 70 miles

What “wind” is powering or slowing you?

Here is NEWS:
Ride today was seventy miles, and
I rode ALL 70!

Weather assists were big part of my ride.
Overcast sky from 7am start to noon lunch,
Kept temps moderate for that period.

"Heavy duty" tail wind of 20 mph,
Eased the pedaling job.
Flat trails gave us a "wings"
For covering miles.

Clouds went away about noon.
Route shifted so that heavy duty wind
Was now battering from side.

On quiet trails, being shoved to another side ...
Inconsequential.
On the roads with shared traffic,
It meant working hard to
Keep riding a straight line.

I followed Nancy,
Hooray, never concerned about being lost.
Two miles from motel,
Nancy got blown over!
Yikes!

Alternate walking & careful riding
Got us safely to motel.

Everybody is very tired.
Grateful to be out of the wind.

Hugs,
Lin

Limerick:

Those times when the wind's really blowing,
It can help you get where you're going.
Small direction change,
Can make things quite strange,
Wind's no longer helping, it's slowing.

Daffodils, my favorite flower. Blooming in this part of Iowa.

Tree down across trail.

Unloading bikes in order to lift through downed tree on trail.

Always love your writing and riding tales!!! You are truly SUPER WOMAN–a 70 mile day and many more days to go!!
Astonishing! My friend!
Super power is in the wind,
Friendships never cease,
Through all the years,
we can still pedal together!
Love you,
Bev
