Making My Way To Waterloo

Tuesday, May 10, 2022
Marshalltown to Waterloo, IA: 60.5 miles

What are you recommitting to today?

I rode all 60.5 miles today.
At times today, I thought
Best thing about the day would be
Getting to end point.
Recommitting was required, over and over.

In my talks, “recommitting”
Is one of “5 shifts to gearing up
For your next big thing.”

Of course, there was the figuring out,
How far to lunch??!!

After yesterday's trails,
For most part, today was back to
Iowa roads & hills.
Wind was seldom a feature of the ride.

Nancy drove van and set up lunch.
I biked with Sharon—VT, Hope—New Hampshire,
Margaret—Wash. D.C., Jim—Michigan.
Well, we started together after each
Pause to check directions.
Three of those four ride eBikes.

Sharon & I had a great "choreography" going.
We would go down hill at sort of same speed.
When uphill started,
Sharon would click in a bit of eBike battery power
And wait for me at the top.

Our final cue sheet direction to bring us
To our Waterloo motel:
"Huge water park, as you make the left-hand turn.”
It is the biggest in Iowa.
Not open for season yet.
Otherwise, our whole bunch of too-hot cyclists
Might have gone "water parking" in bike clothes.

All well here.

Hugs,
Lin

Limerick:

No crops in the Iowa fields now.
Some farmers are out on their big plow.
It will change the scene
When fields are all green.
Their soy beans and corn are the cash cow.

All intent on last minute morning prep. Margaret, D.C. Hope, NH in blue. Jim, MI, his back to us.

You are seeing some of the country where my Mom was born–near De Moines–small little town. And another great friend–they had a farm in the Iowa countryside–great country!!

I am surprised that e-bikes are allowed, but then, why not?? I have another friend who has retired to —-get this—-Switzerland. She has a beautiful little chateau on a hillside. SHE bikes! With her e-bike!! No wonder she can get up/down those mountains.

Have another great time. You will no doubt meet some new interesting people along the way!
Hugs, dear friend!
Bev

I’m enjoying this Iowa country–glad to know your mom was born here.
    Sending love …
