Waiting For Perfect Day Doesn’t Pay

Applying lesson learned in Juneau, Alaska

Sunday, June 30, 2019

Hello My Friends,

My week has had biking.

Not every day,
As rain shows up frequently.
Still, if out early before sticky heat
Glues bike shirt to back and belly,
Riding is okay.

I'm ahead of week's goal again.
"Stockpiling" those more-than-fifty-mile-weeks
For time when biking doesn't work out.

Thinking the other morning,
When my ride was
Bit windy, bit sticky, bit drizzly.

Of lesson learned when lived in Juneau, Alaska,
Where Rain and Drizzle so frequent,
City declared a clear day as
"Sun Day" like a "Snow Day"
In different eco-zone.

Offices & schools closed for day.
Folks went outside in sunshine!

What I learned during that time was:
If you wait for the perfect day to Do and See,
You will miss Doing and Seeing
That particular possibility.

All those years ago,
We put on raincoats and boots,
Walked in drizzle,
Ate picnics under canopies of trees,
Got to have the outing we might have missed.

Granted, this week,
I was biking not many miles from home,
Good raincoat, moderate temps.

Still my "Juneau lesson"
Reminded me to go ahead
And ride.

Our town has Market Square on summer Saturdays.
Food, produce, craft vendors.
Folks have wiggled out from under our "winter rocks",
Into sunshine at center of small town.

I saw friend from years ago.
Said reading about my biking,
Prompted new light-weight bike,
Letting her ride "like the wind,”
With smile on her face.

May we smile!

Hugs to each and all of you,
Lin

Limerick:

If rain comes while I'm out there riding,
I often will think about hiding,
Find place that is dry,
Till clouds roll on by.
Dry riding is best, I'm confiding!

Joining Bob on road for second half of ride

Iconic popcorn stand, Riverside market, Bridge Square.

Lin loves flowers!

Valley Grove Church is such a charming old church--perfect turnaround spot for a 21 miles ride route.

Great spot for break minus the biting horse flies!

Brief stop. 4th of July coming soon
