Training Lessons Relearned

Hard-knock Tips for Long Distance Cycling

Wednesday, May 16, 2018

Back outside for lengthy bike rides,
I rediscover helpful things I know for my own comfort.

Things I Am Rediscovering as I
Train for Lake Michigan Bike Ride:

Have my right foot down every single time I get on bike,
Otherwise… right knee hurts at end of ride.

Lighten up grip on handlebars,
Otherwise… elbows hurt at end of ride.

Get bike pro to adjust angle of bike seat,
Otherwise... sore sit area at end of ride.

Avoid pulling handlebars toward me when cranking uphill,
Otherwise... sore shoulders at end of ride.

Use chamois creams liberally,
Otherwise... TMI.  :>)

Take a few minutes to really rest when having snack,
Otherwise... tire too quickly.

Have equipment tuned & repaired,
Randy, of Willy's Shoe Repair, resoled bike shoes,
Otherwise... every step / stroke is harder than necessary.

I'm learning & relearning with every pedal stroke.
Lucky me!

Hugs to each,
Lin

P.S. Bob and I are headed to the Root River Trail
for bike trail training we know and enjoy.
You'll be hearing about it soon!

LIMERICK:

All the things that I learn with each ride,
My body can memorize inside.
To keep me from pain,
Make mileage my gain,
And long miles astride bicycle abide.

Finally training outdoors

Being sure to drink water and rest

With Randy and my resoled bike shoes!

Good to be reminded that even an expert like you has to think about those things. Getting reacquainted with my electric assist bike has been a great joy this week. I am getting ready for the Pedaler trip to the Root river next week have a good time there.
