Power of Perspective

Nyack to Fishkill, NY: 40 miles

Day 10 —Empire State Trail

Wednesday, August 11, 2021

Consider the power in a change of perspective.

I learned that "kill" means "river" in Dutch.
Makes the town name "better to my ear.”

On road at 6:45 a.m.
Attempt to beat-the-heat.

Trail beside Hudson River,
Lovely trees, great views.

Trail had areas of mud,
Was up & down,
Dirt, gravel, some cindery surface.
A bit "mountain-bikey" for me.

At end of that, I ventured to say to Nancy,
"Let's skip that trail next ride."
"Oh,” says Nancy, "that's my favorite trail!”

Lunch was at mile 24.
Sort of coffee-break time (with no coffee).

I was last in at 12:30.
We were very hot & so glad this day's ride
Finished.

We are housed right off freeway,
In area of many motels,
Fast foods,
No vegetation.

Makes me appreciate my day's start.
Forest, river-edge & views.
Guess I, also, like the trail.
Good lesson in adopting a new perspective.

Glad to be sheltered in A.C. comfort.

Hugs.

Limerick:

It's hot, and it's humid and sticky.
I really don't mean to be picky.
When it's so hot,
I would rather not
Be riding. It feels rather icky.

We rode across Bear Mountain Bridge over Hudson River.

Super-biker Stan

The fate of Benedict Arnold's collaborator

Pallisades Rock Formation. Glad we didn't have to bike up that!

When I was a junior in high school, friends and I rode our bike from our New Jersey homes to Tappan. The beauty and history of this area I found intriguing.
