Fishkill to Saugerties, NY: of which we rode 23 miles

Day 11 of Empire State Trail

Thursday, August 12, 2021

Adjusting to conditions on the ground.

Well, we didn't all ride 23 miles.
Stan rode the whole 60-mile route.
Super-rider, Stan.

Day was a bit complicated,
Though well thought through.
Today's heat index, forecast over 100.

We started on bikes early.
From Fishkill motel, rode to
"Walkway over the Hudson State Historic Park."
It is a bridge dedicated for only

pedestrians & bicycles.
Very efficient, beautiful views, safe riding.
Motel to, and over bridge ---
Those were our 23 miles.

Ken rented a U-Haul truck into which
Bicycles, luggage, food supplies were loaded.
Half of riders could be loaded into

Company van.
Front seat of U-Haul held two more riders.

First load was driven to
Howard Johnson motel, Saugerties.
People, luggage, makings for

PBJ lunch unloaded.
Back to Fishkill for rest of group.

Bikes are staying in the U-Hall truck.
Tomorrow will be about the same,
With shuttling people, not riding.
Once again, high heat-index forecast.

I'm grateful for attention
To keeping us safe and healthy.

Hugs,
Lin

Limerick:

When temperatures rise & it's so hot,
It's best to tuck in to a cool spot.
So, this is a day
To do what you may.
Conserve your good nature—rest a lot!

Glad the group is riding safely! From the photo of the bridge spanning the Hudson River, I can see the heat and humidity by the color of the sky… or, is that smoke from the fires in Canada or elsewhere? It’s too bad that you could not see the area with the blue sky that at times is present.
Best wishes.

I do feel lucky to be seeing it, Muriel. I will imagine it with the skies you describe! 🙂
