In the Groove

Saturday, May 7, 2022
Madrid to Des Moines, IA: 44.5 miles.

You know that feeling of “Being in the Flow?”
What a treat! So grateful.

I rode all 44.5 miles today!

Mostly trails today.
Primary was the Neal Smith Trail.
Through extensive state park,
Big Creek Park with lake,
Curving trail through greenery,
Eventually beside Des Moines River.

So many swooping down, climbing up hills,
We climbed 1,500 ft today, most within park.
Those ups & downs were not nearly so bad,
With warm weather and no rain.

Sign said, "trail closed, under construction.”
Nancy said, "Let's try it.”
We could ride about half of construction length.
My wider tires were perfect!

We could ride trails along Des Moines River
All through the city
To our motel near airport.
Amazing!

Sunny day, people out walking & playing.
Enjoying place, space, plantings,

Views, possibilities,
Along Des Moines River.

Biggest skate board park I've ever seen,
Filled with happy skate board folks.
Lovely, creative, use of river front—both sides.

Very tired from ride.
Pleased to have done it.

Hugs,
Lin

Limerick:

You may think—a trail is a trail.
No changes; experience "pale.”
But I will tell you,
That is NOT true.
Variety makes quite a tale.
