Bright Variety

Dog walking the man.

The trail past my house that I'm liking,
Facilitates more than just biking.
Someone that you see,
May turn out to be,
The one for connection quite striking.

You know that tendency for “sameness?”

One can get to the place of thinking
You know exactly how-to-do-it;
Not making any changes.

Still having "Yo-Yo" weather.
I'm using unseasonably cool days
To test out a variety of bike clothing layers.
Some great different layering,
Some not "enough.”

For me?
I may know My Way really well.
Still, there are other possibilities.

As I've gotten back on bike trail
That passes right in front of my home,
I'm realizing that in addition to
Being the most convenient biking route ever,
There is another aspect to this trail.

It can provide a connecting pathway
For other folks out walking, running, riding
Whom you may know.
Those can be bright spots.

It gives—
Chances to raise an acknowledging hand,
Nod in passing, holler a greeting,
Move along beside for a bit,
Walk and visit,
Move to an edge, stop for catch-up talk.

I spied a person walking some distance ahead,
And thought, "I recognize that stride.”
Slowing as we passed,
We exchanged a wave and happy smiles.

I saw a stroller pushed to trail-side,
A woman bending to tend to a child.
My friend, now a Grama,
Stood up.

We had our first visit in a couple of years.
Her patient toddler watching from stroller.

Pedalling on, I passed a man
Walking his young dog.
On its long leash,
The dog was walking the man.

This was someone from my earlier
Northfield years.

I got off bike and walked beside
That man and dog pair.
Great conversation.

Point is that right now
This Trail is a people connector
As well as a safe way to ride
Place-to-place.

To be acknowledged,
And listened to...
Those are bright spots
At any location.

What's your place for
Bright spot connection?

May your days be lit up.

Hugs.
Lin

  1. For me a frequent bright spot is a cafe just a few miles from my house. It is an easy bike ride away – and has fabulous chai latte.
