Bob's May 12th birthday: 91 years old.
The wind is so strong that I find I,
Feel fearful to ride though I can try—
Some things that I know,
To counter its blow.
When I turn around, wind's my ally.
What does “wind” mean to you?
Proud of myself for riding bike when
This weather condition is "less-than.”
Wind—oh, yes—the wind.
I think my repeated naming of
Wind as challenge
Comes from growing up in
Cheyenne, Wyoming, where wind was
Constantly blowing.
Somehow it was the "Parallel"
To tension in my growing-up household.
Present and unsettling.
I remind myself that my life has changed.
I am riding a bicycle by choice.
That the metaphor of wind and household
Isn't a match.
I've strategies for being on
Bike-in-wind.
Lean down toward handlebars.
(My usual is to ride in an upright position.)
Get off and walk when there's
Risk of being blown over by
Sideways wind blasts.
Stop and tuck myself next to side of some
Structure blocking wind.
Wait for better conditions.
I've learned from my rides.
When I consider it,
I have also learned from
Childhood "Winds.”
Those smarts get used in my
Off-bike-life.
Amazing how my practical knowledge
On and off bike,
Expands my awareness and options.
May your experiences meet
To make your life richer.
Hugs,
Lin

Best Wishes, Bob. You are an amazing 91 year old!
