Whose Help Are You Grateful For

S. Burlington, VT to Plattsburgh, NY: 29 miles

Day 1 of Empire State Trail Ride: Monday, August 2, 2021

I rode with Susan, MG, & Stan.
Thank goodness! Wonderful help.
Being with folks who read directions well,
Know how to use a GPS on phone,
Got me here without being lost.

Whew, I hate being lost.
That can make me feel panicked.

Gorgeous, gorgeous ride along Lake Champlain.
Some trail, some roadside,
All very beautiful.

Two ferry rides.
One, six minutes long
Getting us past an open water place
At end of two-mile causeway/ breakwater path.

Other moving us from VT to NY,
Fifteen minutes on water.

Post ride,
As my bike leaned against motel wall,
Stan came by and was inspecting it.

"Seemed like you were working so hard today.
I'm looking for bike malfunction.”

Stan hopped on my bike for short test ride.

He returned, shaking his head.
"Bike's fine. I think problem is 'operator error!’"

I'll learn to finesse shifting;
To make a smooth start from a standstill;
To feel totally confident on this bike.

One-day-at-a-time.

Hugs to you,
Lin

  1. Dear Lin, I enjoyed seeing pics of the Burlington Plattsburgh ferry. I grew up vacationing on the Plattsburgh side of Lake Champlain and hiking in the Adirondacks. What a gorgeous area!

I am glad you have learning goals, and now I do, too – to look up and learn about finesse shifting.

Blessings on you as you travel onward,
    Linda

  2. Love your photos and your grand smile. What an adventure and what an inspiration you are to me, dear Lin. May the wind be at your back.
    Love,
    Barb

  3. Dear Lin,

Wow, I wish I had come with you!!! What an amazing start to your trip, and great photos! We love getting your blog everyday, almost like we are there with you. All the best to you,
    Claire and Jim
