Where Has Kindness Shown Up This Last Week?

Hello my Friend,

I was on my way out the door.
Office worker said,
“Thank you for your kindness”
“We don’t get much in this office”.

Nodding, I left,
And my jaw dropped.

We had concluded our
Second meeting together.
Two attempts to finally finish
Paperwork tasks.

Maddening need for additional
Supporting papers,
Receipts, licenses, photos,
Showed up as she guided me
Through collected documents.

Home to search file drawers.
Back to office for next step.
Discouragingly endless “stuff”
To be gathered & presented.

I must say,
I got edgy!

We both stayed civil.
Making our way through
One-paper-at-a-time.
Eventually, tasks were finished and
Done!

Staying civil,
Staying courteous,
Translated as Kindness
In her office.

I’m glad she told me.
I would not have named our time with
Such depth of feeling.

Gives me pause.
Makes me think
“How am I treating this situation?”
“How am I valuing this difficult attention?”
”How does this connection color the day?”

Often, we think ourselves
A Little Cog.
Not impacting much.

Challenge for us:
Each of our interactions affect someone.

Let’s have our encounters,
Give a LIFT.
Not place a Load.

Hugs to you,
Lin
