Lake Michigan Ride—Day 8

Harbor Springs—Mackinaw City, MI: 41 miles

Sunday, June 10, 2018

Grateful for shorter miles today.

Some great pavement, some flat,
Some badly broken shoulders, some hills.
Increasing wind during ride.

First stop along road ... in shade,
We were feeding mosquitoes!

Made sure next stops in sun,
Wind assisting mosquito control.

Here in Mackinaw City
I walked main street.
Fudge, Ice Cream shops,
Outnumber all other businesses.

Began asking strangers to take my picture
In front of Fudge stores,
Then asking helpful picture-snapper,
"Where are you from?”

Made me think that you might like to know,
Where this bike group is from.

There are twelve of us.
Nancy & Ken, who run trip ... Vermont.
Margaret ... SAG / sometimes biker ... Virginia.
John who rides with me to keep me on route ... Oregon.
Stan who is adding in mileage .... Wisconsin.
Jerry, with 125,0000 trip miles .... California.
Gene, whose bike has same gearing as mine ... California.
Eric, the other 79 yr old, two weeks younger than I ...Massachusetts.
Susan, whose first ever ride was 3 consecutive century days (100/day)...winter near D.C., summer in California.
Judy, encouraged by Susan to join this ride, rides in same bike club ....California.
Lucy, also from Susan's bike club, riding with her two club companions ... California.
Lin, oldest on this trip, re-stretching her bike wings .... Minnesota.

Good group.

Hugs,
Lin

Limerick:
Mackinaw City is full of fudge.
Eat all the flavors, you'd never budge.
Just look in the shop,
Feast eyes and don't stop,
You'll leave the city, no added pudge!

Eating pbj—middle of road in sun for mosquito control!

Our motel in Mackinaw City

Lin in wind—at—a fudge store!

Another fudge store, another helpful stranger taking photo

You’re approaching our neck of the woods. The calories you gain with that fudge, you’ll work off biking.
