Lake Michigan Ride—Day 19

Random Lake—Milwaukee, WI: 50 miles

Thursday, June 21, 2018

Fifty-mile ride today.
End of this bike journey.
Ride today was under overcast skies,
Threatened rain never did more than sprinkle on me.

Of 50 miles, at least 40 were on trail.
Amazing connection between towns along Lake Michigan.

Followed Nancy again,
Got exactly to each turn,
Excellent.

Bob arrived here about hour after I did,
Having driven from Northfield 8 ->9 hours.
Guess where we went?
To Milwaukee Public Library!
Such a beautiful building.

All riders, plus Bob, plus eight new riders,
Who will ride two and half weeks in WI,
Went to campus dining hall.
Zoo! Absolute zoo!
Got food, good food, and I'm appreciative.

Farewell words, handshakes, hugs,
Exchanged by those of us having ridden
This Lake Michigan loop.
All appreciating chance to be on well-planned bike ride.

End of a ride is a mix of feelings.
Sorry to have daily ride routine ending,
Glad to be able to quit packing, repacking every night,
Ready to rest the body,
Sorry to have adventure end.

Right now, I am in TIRED blur,
Fifty-mile ride,
Noisy dining hall.

Up to computer lab twice,
Down to reception desk three time
For computer help.

Fortunately young student at desk
Told me she is
"Computer Genius"
Hooray for her naming.
She got me connected and writing.

Bob seems as tired as I.
We will sleep here,
Head to Northfield early tomorrow.

Reentry is next phase after bike trip.
A privileged problem.
I'll check in with you in couple of days.
Thank you, thank you for "riding along".

Hugs, to each,
Lin

If Bob likes to visit libraries, come to the Library of Congress, if you haven’t been. I’m sure you have visited this beautiful building though. My son works there. Come visit anyway!

I’m both looking forward to my “regular” life, and sorry to let go of the intensive focus and close daily connection. Such a privilege to do these rides…
