Celebrate the New

What’s new that you can celebrate?

I got to ride 12-miles around Northfield;
Group Bike Ride.
Part of Pres. Susan Rundell Singer’s
Inauguration event as 12th president of St Olaf College.

Pres Rundell Singer is avid bicyclist.
This honored her biking interest,
Matched 12-mile mileage with being 12th president,
Made an active, fun start to official day
Filled with important, traditional ceremony.

My biggest gift out of participating
Was Pres Rundell Singer’s words to me.
“You know, Lin,
Life is what we make of it, wherever we are.”

Big reminder for me!
I’m holding that phrase as a prompt
For times when that doesn’t seem to match.
Times when it seems like—wrong place, wrong time.

Bike ride could be an example—
7:30am, COLD—35 degrees.
I heard many of the 40 riders say
“I don’t usually ride this early, this cold.”
And there we were, celebrating together
With cold noses and frigid toes.

Three well-planned rest stops.
First at Martha’s bakery, delicious treats

With Ice water.

Next Just Foods Coop
For bananas and Ice Water.
On to Central Park for
Ice Water … Brrrr!

Ride was FUN.
Perfect way to start that important day.
Right time for Right activity,
Making my life richer

For joining with 39 others,
All chilly around our edges,
All putting ourselves in that right place.

May I remember
I get to choose what I make of my choices.
And to celebrate them!

Hugs.
Lin

Limerick:

Available water is so nice!
Our hydrating option … iced twice, thrice.
With frost on the ground,
When shivers abound,
My preference is water with no ice.
