Anticlimactic Finish

Rode 30 miles: started St. James, MN
Elevation 1,079 ft.

Thursday, September 12, 2019

Hello Friends,

Ride continues to "dance around" weather.

I rode 20 miles St. James <-> Medelia, MN.
Highway shoulder marked for biking.
Loaded up cycles to avoid rain
Drove on toward home.

Next ten mile section ridden.
On familiar Sakatah Bike Trail.

We're in our Northfield home tonight.
Ready to be here,

Not wanting another motel stay.

By end of excellent lunch stop
First of Thai in Faribault,
Raining.

Tomorrow I will finish the 40 remaining miles,
To complete 500 mile goal.

Planning ride for Bob and I together,
Good finale
For this shared journey.

Last night I noticed,
Both of us worn down.
Trying to communicate clearly,
Yet finding frequent "holes" in messages spoken.

"Holes,” inconsequential in off-bike life
Affecting assumed biking plan,
Are discouraging and tiring.

Funny ... this "not-quite-complete"
Time in this trip.

Good to have finish tomorrow.
My knees are tired.
Notice I am "assisting" myself to stand
By using hands to push down.
Several days consecutive rest
Will cure that.

Flexibility is DEFINITELY
Primary requirement for this trip.

Hugs to each of you,
Lin

Limerick:

My days of consecutive riding,
Are nearing the point of subsiding,
I'll rest both my knees,
Still ride as I please,
And find my home town quite delighting.

Reward after 20 miles on the Howard Hwy Memorial Trail: chocolate donut!

Getting a few miles in on Sakatah Trail before rain and wind hit.

Love the limericks! And proud of you for wrapping up such an ambitious agenda. Glad you are home with no injuries or catastrophes. Making adjustments for trail construction, weather, etc. adds exhaustion. In May I found adjusting the expectations for each day really tiring.
You’ve earned well-deserved rest!! Thanks for the day by day accounts, photos & limericks. Thanks to Bob for all support.
