The Trip to Milwaukee

Friday, June 1, 2018

I am underway,
Launching arrival part of journey.

Bob and I have driven to Milwaukee,
Heavy, heavy truck traffic on freeways,
Nerve wracking, exhausting, prompting frazzle.
Not way I want to start.

Then lost on arrival in Milwaukee!
Arghh....
Could be litany of "downer" experience,
Except....

In crowded midst of downtown Milwaukee,
Pulling over to ask construction crew for direction,
Helpful, kind guy pointed clear path to
Destination on Marquette University campus:
Straz Tower dorm.

Unloading bike and car,
Temps at 59 degrees with wind.
Cold!

Biking group walked to U dining hall to eat.
Good food,
Lots of it,
Plenty GF for Bob and others.

Ten cyclists on this trip.
More than half, repeat riders with company.
Even though sharing stories of former trips,
They welcome with interest we newbies.

Tomorrow, Sat is "day off".
Why before ride, I wondered?

Circumstances of travel, weather, life,
Have folks a bit worn as we arrive.
Tomorrow is time to ground,
Mentally "arrive" and be ready for trip.

Here I am starting trip
Totally new,
Familiar goals,
Expanding experience,
Renewing eagerness.

Excitement is stirring.

Lucky me!

Hugs to each of you,
Lin

Spring beauties: freshly planted flowers in Red Wing (end of a training ride)

Stop for picnic lunch beyond Madison

My ever-helpful bike mechanic: Todd at Millstream Cycle in Faribault

Packed and ready, the night before leaving...

Checking load at first rest stop... Looking good!

French Island rest stop—just into Wisconsin

Lunch break enroute to Millwaukee

Marquette University Dorm

  1. Sounds like another wonderful challenge! Brrrrrr 59 degrees and wind, sounds freezing to me. 98 here yesterday. Wishing you a great ride!
    Love and hugs,
    Your classmate and buddy,
    Bev

  2. Lin, You probably have your trip mapped out. But Milwauke is almost to Dillsburg, 20 miles south of Harrisburg, PA. I have 7 beds – 2 queen, 3 single and a fold up short single, 2 couches and lots of floor space. Not a huge house, but a cheap B&B for a night or two. Warn me and I can feed you all.
How fast do you move? I am going to a Korea Reunion from the 7-11th of June, then home. IF you just need sleeping accomodations, I could get a couple of sleeping bags and food in the fridge and leave the door unlocked???
BUT I’d much rather see you all! IF any possibility call me or email again and say “We’d love to come!”
No harm in asking? Love and joy and great riding, Dusty Knisely

  3. Keep your spirits high and that big nice smile on your face. Then you only have to pedal, pedal, pedal!
    Hugs!
