Pre-60th Reunion Talk Preparation

Tuesday, August 2, 2016

I am working on talk for lunch gathering pre H.S. reunion.

Daunting!

Brings up doubting voices
About interest in topic,
Sequencing story,
Being presenter.

Ten months since I've spoken,
Telling my story of biking.
Rusty on the prep.
Feels harder than biking many miles.

Those things I list as helping me do bike trip,
Relevant now in different challenge.

Commitment piece ....
Certainly, I am committed to giving talk,
And am sticking with commitment.

Getting help ...
Much help is being given
By Newsletter committee.
Creating opportunity,
Advertising, finding space,
Logistics of event covered.
Thank you for Help.

Humor ...
Two new funny bike word songs
Make me laugh.
And I must laugh at
Me; stewing over my story and experiences
That I know are real.
Why do we do that doubting?

Connecting with others ...
Will be result of sharing lunch and story
With folks from high school days.

We all have journey stories after all these years.

My nerves will keep visiting,
My fears will surface.
I will be telling story Friday Aug 5.
How lucky to get to share.

Hugs to you all,
Lin

A limerick for you:
As speaker preparing, quite fearful,
I notice that I am not tearful.
I'll tell a few tales
Long mileage, some wails,
That could provide you with an earful.

Working on my talk—(with my "serious face!")

You will have so much fun doing this “little talk”
You won’t even have to think about it or zonk!
We all are so amazed that you have us quite dazed
So, together we could sing a song in your praise!!

What shall we sing together, you and me?
We could sing songs of our youth
So good they wouldn’t flee!
Let’s find a good tune and make them all swoon!

What song shall it be?
Let’s think of Miss Barnum
What would she choose?
What song before our voices we lose?

How about I’ve got a Little List,
I’ve got a little list,
Of society offenders
And none of them be missed!
Guess that is the end of the road for this time! Love,Bev

I’m reading today’s message and am stumped by your case of nerves. A few things to share… I have forwarded all of your emails to my mother who is still housebound due to C-diff. We have thoroughly enjoyed your journey! I guess we all have feelings of insecurity when dealing with people from our high school days. But Lin, you have inspired so many! Young and old. Claim your accomplishment for what it is; your own personal journey. Blessings and continued thanks for inspiring me to set my own goals higher!

It lifts my heart to know I’m helping to inspire you!
I share my nerves not to ask for reassurance, but to let everyone know the nervousness they feel pursuing their own goals is normal, to be expected, and never really goes away!

Hey,
This is for Bruce.

Your wonderful bride is getting lots of accolades and I have and will add mine. What she is doing is beyond comprehension to me. However, I have to add that I think you are pretty great too. You have ridden with her or to meet her many times. You have been there to cheer her on; you have made sure all the logistics were carried out from food, gear, rest stops and hotels. You have provided her with SAG support. Lin might have been able to accomplish what she has without your support but having it must have made it feel like a joint venture and made her proud to have such a supportive mate.

Lin,

The talk at the class reunion will be just fine. You have done it before with people that you come in contact with frequently. This will be a piece of cake!
All is well here. See you in a couple weeks.

Suzanne

Good luck with your talk. You’re very brave! I’m so glad you said to wash my riding clothes every night. With my granddaughter I am biking with Backroads from Berlin around/Dresden.

    Lin Bruce - August 5, 2016

That must be very special time! I had a terrific shared trip with one of my grandsons; it created a precious bond. I hope the same for you!

Irene - August 3, 2016

I am sure your talk will be as inspiring, funny and amusing as the one you gave at VOC. I wish I was there to hear about all your adventures again. All the best to you and Bob. Hugs!

Gail McLaughlin - August 6, 2016

Did anyone film it? That would be great to see. I just know you ended up having fun! All those butterflies helped you take flight.

    Lin Bruce - August 7, 2016

Yes, that’s a great way to say that — it is my experience that anxiety and excitement are neighbors. 🙂 I had great fun — the high after an event like this is certainly payoff for the uncertainty that inevitably paves the way.
No video this time around. There was a local reporter and photographer in attendance, I am hoping to see and share some of the photos the photographer got.
