Plattsburgh to Upper Jay, NY: 46 HILLY miles

** Editor's Note: Bad cell connectivity meant photos could not be sent.
More tomorrow!**

"Aunt Lin, you'll have hills on your ride,”
Niece Elizabeth said in an email,
About two months ago.

Hills-schmills, I thought.
I can pedal up hills.

Today lets me know that
Elizabeth is absolutely right.

Wow, such hard pedaling up hills today.

I was very discouraged and thought,
I need to bail out of this trip.

Then—a couple of things:
About half of group, all exhausted from hills
And occasional wrong turns (temporarily lost),
Showed up at gas station / ice cream store / C-store.

Shared stories,
Laughter,
Food,
Revived me.

After that, I realized that it is okay
If I walk my bike up some hills
.
That's OKAY!
We are on a Ride,
Not a Race.

Relaxing a bit,
Knowing I can connect with
Like-minded companions—
Reassuring for each next day's ride.
I'm all right.

Hugs,
Lin

Beautiful rushing river alongside our hilly climbs

  1. Hi Lin,
What a journey! Hang in there, no shame in some walking on hills, the comraderie and some ice cream will carry you through! It’s all about connecting, right?
We are all with you in spirit here in Northfield!
    Have a great ride today,
    Claire

  2. Your such an inspiration, great thoughts, encouraging, Ice cream, rejuvenate with smiles, calories and pep talks.

    Fantastic river view.

    Love your updates.

  3. Well, Lin, those hills apparently were as bad as they looked, but YOU CLIMBED THEM!!!! So proud of you! 😘😘😘

  4. Hello Lin-you are so brave to sign up for a ride so many miles from home and in the summer!
I hope my health returns to be able to enjoy adventures! All the best!

  5. Dear Lin,
Wow – gorgeous photo of you and the river. I hope the hills disappear for a while. Although the altitude is not high, I know that the hills back East can be tough. I hiked a bit in the Shenandoah National Park when I lived in Virginia and I was really taxed. So take care and have fun.
    Did Roger come along, too?
He is great. I wish I could see you guys again.
    Have a wonderful day.
I can’t wait to read your next entry.
    Becky Orr

    1. Just me this time, Becky! Me and the other 14 riders on this trip. I see that river pic, the “Ausable Chasm,” is also known as “The Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks!” 🙂 Hills, indeed!
