When someone is present to hear you,
Your story about what you do “do,”
Brings more fun and zest,
You give it your best,
Attention from one, or a big crew.
Whose listening lifts you?
I think we all have places
Where people listen when we share.
Receiving their focused attention—
Truly a gift.
Whether it is one interested person,
Small groups or larger,
Having genuine attention
Is an honor.
It can be fun, too.
I got to be the speaker for
Coon Rapids, MN, Senior Center’s
Friday “Lunch and Learn.”
Great group of forty-five folks,
Forty-two women, three men.
In my limited experience,
An often-usual split in attendance.
Alert, awake, engaged with me—
I got to share my story.
They gave me a gift.
Whether one or many,
The audience plays a big part in
Energy of an event.
Mine brought the audience-energy part
With zest!
Grateful for that fun time,
The lift of the gift of listening.
