In midst of Very Tall corn. (photo by River Bruce)
Amazing how quickly the corn grows.
How tightly it fills in the corn rows.
Whatever that blitz,
I do think that it's,
Botanical magic the corn knows.
Where is beauty surprising you?
Riding this week—
Usual route—
I was suddenly aware that
Lining both sides of the road were
Fields of Very Tall corn.
Just a few months ago
Those fields were bare.
Views from my bike seat were
Empty-seeming flat spaces,
Long views.
Today views are green and tall.
Decades ago,
We moved to MN in August.
Driving across Midwest agricultural land,
My view was of
Acre upon acre of corn fields....
Endless stalks of corn.
In the ten years prior to the MN move,
We had lived in places with mountains,
Colorado, Maine, Afghanistan.
Now the constant views were corn fields,
Not a mountain in sight.
I cried.
Yes, I was tired.
Moving a family of six
Can "fray" edges of positive outlook
And optimism.
Plus I hadn't learned the appreciation
Of robust crops creating the landscape.
I view it differently now.
I see the change from empty soil
To tall lush crops
As its own amazing beauty.
That's one of bike perks for me.
Pedaling, with its slow-viewing option,
Has helped teach me that
Beauty shows up in so many ways.
What are you seeing in your location
In this season
That you realize is beautiful?
May those beautiful sights be many.
Hugs,
Lin
