Fear, Assumptions, and Relief!

Hearing “Bloops” can cause hilarity.
Answers one speaks with sincerity—
That don’t match at all,
Can even appall,
Lacking my hearing’s dexterity.

What have you been postponing
Because of fear?

Big event for me,
I got hearing aids this week!

I’ve stalled several years
Before taking this step.
I was afraid.
Yup, afraid.

Afraid I’d have an experience
Like others I’ve watched adjust.
Ten years ago, my husband struggled.
Transition was hard for him, and hard for me.

I was imagining the same:
Manipulating tiny batteries,
Loud noises as I chew,
Hearing my pant legs rub as I walk,
Having mechanism fall out of my ear.

Ten years of advancing technology,
Hooray! I’m having different experience.
So far, one week, I’m pleased.

I do hear one shoe squeak.
Didn’t know I had a squeaky shoe!

All that resistance, fear …
Unfounded.
I could have taken action sooner.

Now I have what I need to improve my hearing.
Learning how to reliably settle aids in my ears,
Is biggest challenge.

Who knew ear canals
Had variable twists!

Whatever you’ve been stalling about,
I encourage you to take action.
Let me know how it worked out for you.

Hugs,
Lin
