Ending Wanting More

Sturgeon Lake to Hinckley, MN: 30 miles

Thursday, August 9, 2018

Hello My Friends,

I am writing from Northfield.
Returned, via car, this afternoon 2:30.

Bob and I said to each other,
"Sorry to have this bike trip end."

Actually, that is a good ending,
Longing for more.
Rather than ...
"Finally! Whew! This is done!"

Today backtracking miles ridden yesterday,
Different experiences.
No wind, usually biker's dream,
Meant we were plagued by Deer Flies.
They bite! Ouch!

Bob is particularly targeted by bugs.
He must be tasty.
Fortunately he was carrying
Bandana-like headgear,
You know it as
"Bad Ass,”
Often worn by motorcyclists.
Under helmet, with tail down back of neck,
Some protection from biting flies for Bob.

My bike jacket collar can be turned up for protection.
Usually I would have shed jacket earlier.
Trade off of bit-too-warm
Worth keeping flies off neck.

I will find tiny bottle of bug repellent,
Happy to add the extra ounces of weight in pannier.

This trip again showed
Convenience of "old time" motels
.

Door on ground level
Opening to outdoors.
Easy to get bikes in and out.
Easy to carry panniers / bike load in and out.

I always ask for ground level room
When traveling by bike.
Now, because I also ask for Senior Citizen rate,
Request for ground level
Often interpreted as having limitation.

I do ... limitation and tremendous asset ...
Bicycle!

So glad we did this trip.
Low mileage ... total of 178 miles.
An adventure I enjoyed.

Oh yes, I did have one more "pie adventure.”
Whistlestop Cafe in Hinckley had
Sour Cream Raisin Pie.
My Mama used to make sour cream raisin pie.
Not my fave, too sweet, too many raisins.

Summers I worked at Rockefeller private ranch,
JY Ranch, Jackson, WY, 1957 and 1958.
Orva, the cook, skilled at most foods,
Made sour cream raisin pie.
Delicious!

I keep looking for Orva's version.
Not many places have that variety on list.
Keeps me from trying too often.

Today's piecrust was light, flakey.
Sour Cream Raisin part was just okay.
Sigh ...
I'll have to continue my search.

Thanks for reading along.
'Twas a bike and variety trip. Great!

Hugs to each and all, Lin

Limerick:

Returning from some days of riding,
Already I find I'm deciding,
"Because this was fun,
I know I'm not done,”

Adventures will pop out of hiding.
