Friends laughing together
When I laugh, my outlook gets brighter
The weight on my shoulders gets lighter.
Poss-i-bil-ity,
Is clearer to me.
My efforts can simply seem "righter.”
When did you last crack yourself up?
I just wrote a title for what I am feeling,
Melancholy.
Pausing to look at words on screen.
Rather than "Noting the Melancholy,"
I see I had written, "Snorting the Melancholy.”
Hilarious! I burst into laughter.
Guess what?
Laughter lifted some of the mental drag.
Something so small—
A big laugh—
Brighter outlook.
I list "Finding Humor in the Hard Stuff"
As one of my Five Shifts.
So this isn't news,
But I forget.
Yesterday we attended a funeral.
Actually a very positive life celebration,
Still, sad at this loss.
In the closing words,
Minister told us 2 or 3 "groaner" jokes.
Suddenly there were 200 people
Laughing together.
I left the event feeling
Brighter and Lighter.
I don't know a
"How To"
For conjuring this.
It's pretty hard to laugh at
Joke you've told yourself.
While we are thinking up what
Could seem funny,
Remember that seeing
Humor in the Hard Stuff,
Really does lighten the load.
Often it's after the fact.
Really, in the moment
Walking in bike shoes,
One shoe getting so stuck
That you find yourself
Stepping forward, sock-footed
Into sticky muck.
Not funny at the time.
Hilarious in hindsight.
There you were …
May we laugh, giggle, smile.
It lightens the "heavy.”
Hugs,
Lin

A helpful reminder to laugh!
Thanks, Lin!
Muriel
I need the reminder as well! Thanks, Muriel.
After two months of traveling I am almost home (will be tomorrow) and am catching up on your recent Tuesday posts. As I read about shoes stuck in mud I thought back to that day as we left Council Bluffs in 2022. I scrolled a bit further and there I was. I was foolish to charge into that mud but certainly did laugh about it later.
Congrats on getting out on your bike today. I was on a tryke last week, I’ll get out on my own bike in the next few days.
Love – Hope
Thanks for your message! Terrific shared memory. Welcome home, and happy biking ahead!
