When your life is battered and windblown,
Your path feels too rocky and unknown.
May some shift appear,
Some help that is clear,
Supporting you; being your keystone.

Are you feeling battered by “winds?”

Wind is apt metaphor for
Challenging times in everyday
Walking-around-in-the-world life.

I’m back on a bicycle after a week of no riding.
Dislikes I had with bike were tweaked to an “okay.”

What didn't change, is the wind.
For me, wind is such a significant part
Of any bike ride.
It can define my experience & outlook.

Biking out this morning, wind at my back,
Thoughts were "Oh yes! This is fun! How could I forget?"
Coming back, wind in my face,
Struggling with each pedal-stroke,
Thoughts were
"Not sure I have enough strength to get through this."

Like life, when things are supported,
Moving forward with ease,
Finances, health, shelter, love.
All part of a smooth-sailing wind,
There is "Oh, yes!" thinking.

When my route / life puts me into headwinds,
Struggling to stay upright …
Difficulties, losses of any kind
Can feel beyond moving through.

Then I long for a shift in my route.
Some path that softens ferocious wind.

This week our son-in-law, Ty, died.
Exhausting "headwinds" before and after that loss
Are battering his wife and those who knew him.

Sunset out our motel window; one of two since arriving.

One-day-at-a-time,
One-pedal-stroke-at-a-time,
Living life
However the wind blows.

Sending the Gaelic blessing,
"May the wind be at your back.”

Until it is, here is my wish for you:
"May you have strength to bend and stand again."

Hugs.
Lin

  1. Lin and Bob,

Randy and I are sad to learn that your son-in-law died, and that your daughter has deep heartbreak and massive change to manage. The unexpected headwinds (as Lin describes) threaten to blow away all that was familiar. Please know that Randy and I will pray for your daughter, your whole family, and for you both.

    In faith and friendship,
    Muriel

  2. Oh, Lin. Your words are always a comfort to me. You lift me up. Thank you. My heart is with you, Bob, Lindy and family. Wishing you love, comfort and light.
    Barb
