Remembering My Wedding

Wednesday, August 27, 2025

What's your funny story about a special event?

I’m in memory mode this week.

Attention to 66th anniversary with
Kind wishes filling my heart—
I'm sharing two more wedding pics
And some family timeline.

Wedding day ...
Three little sisters, 14yrs, 6 yrs, 4yrs
All part of the wedding party.
Our really little sister, 3 months old,
Home with a babysitter.

Bride with three younger sisters.

Our parents,
Bob's in their 50's,
Mine in their 40's.

Very different backgrounds...
Bob's from Ohio academic and business
Mine from WY sheep ranching and trades.
Both Bob and I—raised in Wyoming.

Pre-wedding, both Moms
Tending to logistics and obligations.
Unfettered bride and groom only needing
To show up for Event.

Rehearsal night dinner ...
Held in Cheyenne's best restaurant.
Most formal, celebrative, multiple-course menu
Selected by Bob's mom
Gracious and experienced hostess.

White tablecloths, tables in
Horseshoe shape. Sixteen people.
Bride and Groom, two sets of parents
At head table.

First course:
Era favorite served at
Special, formal events:
Jellied Consomme.
Oh, No!

Glossy in its dish,
Shimmery, glistening, jiggly,
Brown Blob.

Was it brown Jello?
My little sisters tasted it..
Definitely not.

How to handle this and
Not offend the hostess?
One by one,
Timing it so that prior bowl was empty,
Each sister
Delivered her bowl to my Dad.

One bowl by one bowl, he
Gamely ate four bowls of
Jellied consomme.
Then came dinner ...

It became a joke.

I never learned to like jellied consomme.
Fortunately, I never had to.

Only my then very young sisters
And a couple of bridesmaids
Remain to remember the story.

May the humor remain.
Tell me your story in the comment field below!

Hugs.
Lin

You may not remember the venue.
Still, you do recall that time when you
Laughed hard at the scene.
Memories are keen.
Of actions brought on by the menu.

Minnesota Sunset

Sequoia calls these "cotton candy clouds."

Family gathered for celebration.

  1. Happy 66th Anniversary Bob and Lin. Randy and I are blessed to know both of you!
Fantastic memories, photos, and info. A delight!
Perhaps I will write later about something funny from Randy and my wedding.
By the way, this new online site is tremendous.
    Muriel

  2. Lin – I love the photos and the story. I’m glad there are a few still alive who remember your wedding day, along with you and Bob.
Two nights ago my brother and I hosted a birthday dinner for a 91 year old summer neighbor whom I’ve only begun to talk with much in the last few years. He has such a deep knowledge of our shared summer community. I know the importance of listening to his stories as he is the last primary source of so much information.

  3. I love your stories ❤️
Truly a bright spot in my day
Love to you and Bob as you continue to celebrate your lives together.
