Ticonderoga to Glens Falls, NY: 56 miles
Day 4, Empire State Trail Ride
Thursday, August 5, 2021
Today brought lessons in patience and flexibility.
I am a VERY impatient "waiting-person.”
If you know me well, that's not new to you.
Arriving at Glens Falls, Queensbury Hotel at 3pm,
We had one hour wait for 4:00pm check-in.
That stretched to six o'clock.
Long time for any of us!
Reminder to self: when waiting, BREATHE!
Waiting was only part of my day.
Like any day, it had many different pieces.
First 35 miles of today's riding; all on Highway 22.
Big help for me to know, "Just follow 22.”
Hills were longer, less steep,
Still lots of them, yet more manageable for me.
Jeanne, our SAG, put out great selection for lunch.
Avocado, provolone cheese, lettuce was my sandwich.
High class, I'd say.
(Half a PBJ too, of course.)
Final portion of ride was to be on bike trail.
Trail closed due to downed electrical wires.
Marleen, with whom I was riding,
Whipped out phone & Google-mapped us to hotel.
Rode some streets ill-suited for bicycles,
Still, we got to hotel safely.
Each day has its own scenario.
Keeps us "on-our-toes."
Hugs,
Lin
Limerick:
Traveling the same number highway,
Keeps ME off an incorrect byway.
When choice is not there,
For which way to bear,
Can't take a road that will lead astray!

Hi, Lin, your blog says you are impatient, but I consider a person who has to wait three hours to check in and who doesn’t have a huge fit a remarkably patient person! That sounds hard after a long days ride.
Very glad things are going well. You are in my thoughts daily.
Linda
🙂 Thanks, Linda! Good point. 🙂
Appreciate your thoughts!
Today I am grateful for Rte. 22 (I know how discouraging it is to be lost) glad it was straightforward. Also grateful for Marleen and her phone’s GPS. Partners in travel are so valuable. Wishing you another good day today!! Northfield had a bit of rain last night. We are all grateful. ❤️🎉❤️🎉❤️
Glad to hear of rain, Naurine! Thanks for being “along with me” this way! I know you understand!
🙂
Lin –
Love the picture of you with luggage piled around you. Reminded me of my one “trip” on a bicycle across northern Europe. We carried our “luggage” with us in saddle bags across the bike with clothes and things we would need plus a rather bulky sleeping bag. No SAG for us but still we made it. Am sure you have had rides like that too. Stay safe!
Suzanne P.
Great memory, suzann! 🙂
Dear Lin,
I am with you for your ups and downs: both hills and otherwise. xxxooo
Love,
Sue H.
I know that Sue, and appreciate it down to my toes! 🙂
What a way of practicing patience! I would need some of that too. Everyday a new lesson. You are doing great!! Hugs.
We’re never too old to grow, right? Thanks, irene!
