Noticing and Appreciating

Wednesday, May 14, 2025

When you're on your bike and it's springtime,
You're riding amidst nature's showtime.
New growth to be seen,
On hill and ravine.
Combining both peace time and "zing time."

What are you noticing and appreciating lately?

Extraordinary time for bike riding,
Springtime,
In a year when
Unfurling buds open as we watch...
Sort of.
Definitely overnight.

Never has there been a time
When I have really taken in this
Reemerging growth.
I certainly am now.

Bike rides are short, six to ten miles.
Those little outings are times to
Scan the trees!
Note the green!
See new flowers.

Always, I'm sure, tree branches have been
Bones for fresh new green
That will cover stark branches and long views.
Feels like it's a new experience.

Clockwise from upper left: Blooming tree gracing quiet resting spot, Looks like a blooming sculpture, Even parking lots get springtime beauty, Tree on tree ... a frame.

My guess is that paying attention,
Soaking in beauty, variety, change
Is heightened for me with Bob's limitations at this time.

Here is another springtime to absorb,
With the chance to do just that.

So I am riding my bike
With "beginner eyes.”
Noticing and appreciating.

Wearing High Viz,
Using my rear-view mirror,
Paying attention to walkers & cyclists.
Even on a paved trail
One rides with "bike smarts" extended.

I'm doing that and
Grateful to be part of season and scene.

Stern direction for you:
Always watch ride conditions,
Even as you relish the scene.

Hugs,
Lin

Clockwise from left: Lovely "tea-time" with friends, Another springtime sight. These goslings are already pre-teen, Tree bones still visible.

Yes, “relish the scene”, “zing times.” I’ve been noticing and enjoying the emerging greens, pinks, and reds – as spring unfolds – from North Carolina a month ago to here in New Hampshire now. I’m thinking of a Robert Frost poem.

DUST OF SNOW
The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree.
Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

Different season! but noticing small things in nature.
I’m so glad that you are able to get out for bike rides most days. I’m doing the same.
Hugs

Sending love to you and Bob, and prayers that Bob continues to gain some strength and endurance. Love your photos, Lin, and I recognize that tea time table. Big hugs, dear friend.
