An entirely new view of the river.
It's one side you're usually viewing,
That shapes what you're usually doing.
If you change your route,
You'll find without doubt,
Expanded scenes—fresh and renewing.
What if you got a new view?
Riding along at a "stroll-speed"
On the one mile of new bike trail,
I thought about how much new-to-me
I am viewing.
Buildings and spaces I've
Pedaled by for decades,
I am now seeing the back-side view.
Many differences.
Some opening to a river vista,
Some for needed storage.
And I had thought I knew the area
From the front-side view.
Not so.
My bike had carried me
Past THE best bakery, "Martha's.”
Past Corner Bar often with 15 to 30
Motorcycles parked curbside,
Favorite stop midst sunny day motorcycle ride.
Past homes with flowers,
Past some with multiple broken cars or trucks
Kept as spare parts for future possible need.
Past a historic church
Beautifully turned into a lovely dwelling.
Now I am seeing another side
Stretching down to the river.
Totally different views,
With their own charm.
An alpaca farm whose sign was familiar,
Now I see alpacas!
The entrance side of the ball field
Now there are bleacher seats and a playing field.
Makes me think of situations and
People I encounter.
I get to see one side.
What if I could experience some other side?
At the very least,
My experience and view would be expanded.
Maybe not changed.
But expansion is just that ... expanding.
From riding a trail,
To interacting with acquaintances,
Organizations, my town,
A wider view can be a different picture.
May an expanded view,
Places or people,
Be part of your good day.
Hugs,
Lin

Lin,
Thanks for sharing the new mile of Mill Towns State Trail south out of Dundas. My family and I walked it Sunday, November 2.
So glad to hear it, Peggy! Your energy is truly in every part of this trail–as if it weren;t for you, it wouldn’t BE!
So true, Lin! Thanks for sharing this wisdom!
🙂
