First outing for Bob after bicycle mishap.. Northfield Public Library

Wednesday, June 14, 2023

A stop as you pass a library,
On whim, or a trip necessary,
Will likely provide,
With what was supplied,
A pause that’s beyond ordinary

Has visiting a library refreshed you?

Improvement!
More upward trajectory for Bob’s healing.
Hooray!

The Big First Outing was to our Library.
No surprise there.

It did get me thinking about
Some of my bike trips and
Library involvement.

In 2018, riding a commercial ride with the
“Nancy and Ken” company,
We rode a loop around part of Lake Michigan.

With an afternoon of free time in Houghton, MI,
I went to Public Library with some questions.
Librarian told me they have LOTS of
Cyclists stop by the Library,
As they ride through town.

Perfect place to get questions answered.
Usually, welcoming.
Has a bathroom available.
Can use a computer.
Local person behind desk can suggest food places.
Often air-conditioned on hot day.

Out of the rain on a rainy day.
Can get thumbnail sketch about the area.
Hear of road construction en route out of city.
Learn what those unusual, reoccurring shapes indicate.
Have a short-term audience for recounting bike trip adventures.
Can even read newspaper, if willing to break single focus “Zen” of ride.

I’m always happy to come across this resource.

What other “perks” have you found in some Library stop?
Let me know.

Hugs.
Lin

  1. These are wonderful photos of libraries! (I have a particular fondness for the stacks of the Winona Public Library.)

And so very good to know Bob is on the road to wellness!

    Love, Leslie

  2. So good to see Bob back in one of his favorite places! I’ve been thinking about both of you, hoping for this healing, since I first heard of the accident.

    With love,
    Patsy

  3. So good to see Bob on your outing to the library.
I too have visited lots of libraries on bike trips especially in 2005 before I even owned a computer. I depended on libraries to stay in touch with family and friends via email. I now travel with a lap top, an iPad and a cell phone on bike trips.
At home I frequent 2 libraries for educational programs, to check out books and to access audio books via Libby.
    💙Hope
