Glens Falls to Albany, NY: 59 miles
Day 5: Empire State Trail Ride
Friday, August 6, 2021
What worked well today for you?
Wise women have taught me:
Notice what went well.
Gratitude such a powerful
Magnet for more.
What worked well:
Beautiful breakfast in Queensbury hotel.
Hills few & gradual.
Riding behind Nancy, who plans every
Twist and turn of each route.
I was never lost!
Several times, planned route-ways were—
Closed, surface unsuitable,
Needed revising.
Nancy could do that.
Passing through colonial towns,
Seeing impressive old brick homes—
Wow! I like looking.
What didn't work well:
Van arrived at motel before riders, as usual.
Found that motel had no reservations for us!
Via texts & phone to locate paperwork,
None of Nancy's careful work recorded on motel's end.
Then bag in van, containing credit card,
Couldn't' be found.
Alternate lodging finally found.
Late afternoon, Nancy & I
Came upon four riding buddies
One had fallen half hour earlier,
Injured lower arm.
Decision made to call 911.
Quick to scene was fire engine with 1st responders.
Next was police car with Officer Polansky.
Next came ambulance which handled rider's injured arm very carefully,
Taking Sharon to ER.
Now—one extra bike with Sharon gone.
What to do?
Marleen has a Bike-Friday.
Folded that into police car.
Marleen then rode Sharon's bike
Final 8 miles to motel.
Big e-bike, Marleen is little.
She did fabulous job getting it here.
Over all, day is okay.
We are housed,
Medical care is being given.
Beds & hot water for each of us.
Grateful as always,
Especially tonight as all are worn & weary.
Hugs,
Lin
Bike trips are SO MUCH more
Than pedaling!

WOW! What a story. Your trip sure takes being open to all twists, turns, and changes. I so appreciate your posts and your wisdom. Surrounding you with love, Lin, as you continue your adventure.
Barb
Thank you, Barb! The stories are better shared–thanks for reading them and sending me such caring thoughts!
WOW, is right. Grateful for gradual hills. Grateful for Nancy and her abilities to lead the way on the route. “Not lost” is a real plus. So sorry about injuries. Grateful for responsive medical and safety personnel.
One of my walking trips experienced that “no record of room reservations” for the group. AND that motel was full. Very fortunately another on the next corner had enough vacancies.
Grateful for Marleen’s flexibility and strength to ride the alternate bike.
You have so many memorable experiences. Thsnks for sharing with us! Nice steady rain in Northfield this morning and Riverwalk opening 2 hrs later because of lightening. Best wishes for today. ☔️❤️👍☀️
Naurine, sometimes it pays to notice that things working smoothly is quite miraculous! 🙂 Thanks for relating to my adventures!
What a full day!! So glad to know those hills were a lot more friendly. Hang in there! Hugs!
Thank you, Irene! 🙂

Hi Lin, I love the picture of you next to that racy Cow. You continue to enspire with your honesty and wit.
Much love and keep pedaling……although we are learning there is so much more to it.
Racy cow indeed! Love it. Thanks, Sigrid! “:)
