What draws you into forward motion?

What helps you …
To get on to next possibility?
To get back to hope?
To feed your soul?

Satisfaction of knowing
You’ve “done it.”
You’ve gotten there.
Your creative effort has taken shape.
Your dream is colorful; it draws you forward.

I received such wonderful
B-day messages and activities,
Continuing beyond the day.

Now …
I know that I need to “Commit.”
Commit to biking that will get me
Strong enough to be part of
Mid-May commercial bike trip.

I’ll ride ten days in Midwest
With group headed to Albany N.Y.

Commit—first shift for a journey, a change, a goal.
Easy to proclaim.
Harder to do,
And retain.

Probably each has her/his own way…
Reward on completion of a piece.
Mathematically tallying time put in.
Adding up increments finished.
Hanging out in P.J.s until morning commitment is met.

Whatever commitment tool
You’ve come up with,
Good for you!
It’s worthwhile.

For me now,
I’ll get back to keeping lists of
Miles ridden inside,
Miles ridden outside.
I like watching the pieces add up
As my stamina increases.

Always I remind myself to
“Recommit,”
Every few minutes if need be.

New resolve —
Good way to engage
My year of “Appreciation.”

Hugs,
Lin

Limerick:

Commitment is often a hurdle,
Constraining, so much like a girdle.
See how you can fit,
Just one little bit,
To move you; remember a turtle.

Surprise!  B-day cake
Exercise room – Ready
Check machine – Set
Select machine – Go !!
  1. Oh Lin, You are SO inspiriting – and so true about setting those little goals, making the lists so that we can see our progress and pressing on! So excited for your next great thing you are doing. Makes me, who is a bit behind you in age and stamina think “I can do it — God’s not done with me yet 🙂 ” Thank you for your encouragement!

  2. Lin – yes to goal setting. I exercised on my stationary bike every day for 3 months. Now, in Tanzania, I spend hours riding in a Land Rover each day with little opportunity to even walk. But the wild animal viewing is awe-some and I’m having a wonderful time.
    Hope

    1. Delighted to hear of the “wonderful time,” Hope! I hear you fulfilling dreams and goals. Sometimes being in motion IS in a vehicle! 🙂
