When your mind's approaching a tail-spin,
That could be a time when you check in
With what you can do
To make your sky blue.
Such a far better way to begin.
How do you put the brakes on an emotional tailspin?
My morning was a flurry of little
Non-essentials that clogged my thoughts.
No... they don't clog my thoughts;
I am thrown into a downward slide.
Morning was becoming "grump-time.”
I realized ...
I've Gotta Bike!
You've heard me say that for me,
Biking is beyond
Physical activity.
Biking is my mental health go-to.

Conditions can be just-so-so,
With gray skies, rising wind,
Pot holes to be avoided.
Series of uphills that require my lowest gear,
A downslope that has me gripping my brakes.
Still, somehow, a rhythm of pedaling,
Landscape sliding by in slow motion,
Unravels knots in my outlook,
And brings me to a calmer place.
I feel lucky to know
Something that can bring
A more optimistic view
To my day.
What stops your downward slide?
May you put yourself there
When that's best for you.
Hugs,
Lin

Dear Lin: you make my day!! Have been kind of down lately, and your thoughts and observations hit a Homer with me! Thank you dear friend 🧡
Delighted to hear it was a pick-me-up! Love to you, Jan!
Hi Lin: Well, it certainly appeared to me this morning that your choice to bike dispelled your grumpiness, as you were smiling when you said hello! (I might have had my running face on, but I was smiling inside somewhere.) Nice to see you out there!
You’ve made me smile in turn, Dan! 🙂
For me it is swimming – especially as we enjoy wonderful, still warm days here in New Hampshire in mid-September. Biking too of course. In the colder months – walking outdoors and card making.
It’s just good to know how to dispell the grumps! Glad you know swimming does it, Hope!
