Day Brighteners

Palm trees whipping in current Texas wind.

We recognize the impact of art,
Cheers us up and brightens any start.
Imagination,
Prompts a creation.
Delighting both my mind and my heart.

What are your day-brighteners?

My expectation/hope on arriving in TX
Was to release feeling
Cold-clear-to-the-bone.

Funny how comparing weather numbers
Isn't the same as standing in midst of
Some other place
Named as South and Warm .....
Which surely means more comfortable.

Leaving MN with its -15F degrees,
Stepping into TX location with 40F degrees
In comparison, should have felt warm.

Why, at that temp this time of year in MN
Folks would be wearing shorts and no coats.

Here were locals and visitors alike
Shivering … and complaining.

Travel was efficient.
Some irritations—
Long wait for someone authorized to come
Push Bob's wheelchair.
The crunch of endless people.

Busy Minneapolis airport

And the relief of beauty in unexpected places.
Bathroom entryways at Mpls airport
Have fabulous mosaic creations.

Generous and kind employees.
Along our way.
An airline hostess who refilled my coffee cup
And handed me a second pkg of cookies.

Hassled line of people
Making their way onto our airplane
Filling every seat, in assigned spot.
Once settled, all became part of a
Sculpture hurtling through the sky.

Top Row: back of airline seat map tracking upcoming landing, palm trees whipping in current high wind. Bottom Row: Golden seahorse and pink flamingoes—sculptures made from sea-trash.

Harlingen, TX airport had its own
Unusual spots of beauty.
Sculptures made of litter collected from ocean.
Alarming to know all that gets tossed,
Delightful to see transformation into art.

HEB: TX grocery store of choice.

Our trek to grocery store
Via this town's free bus line,
Got us where we could easily shop for
Meal components for first few days.

We are here.
Anticipating better weather eventually.

Grateful, grateful, grateful.
All is well for us.

What have you noticed
That brightens a day ... or even a few minutes?

Hugs,
Lin

  1. Lin, I love this whole post–a terrific limerick, uplifting observations, and knowing that you and Bob have arrived safely in Texas!

    Love, Leslie

  2. Glad you have arrive and have stocked your pantry! Here's hoping the warmer weather comes your way soon!

    Love, Margit

  3. Glad to see you got some place warm! We are in Nairobi where it’s sunny and low 80s! I’m looking forward to getting back on the bike but I think it’s going to be a while. Virginia is frozen solid!
