Tour de Wyoming: Day 2

Buffalo to Ten Sleep, WY: 64 miles (My ride: 54)

Monday, July 18, 2016

Beautiful morning to start day.
Elizabeth and I said to each other how much we like
Early morning riding.
Cool, quiet, fresh.

Had about a mile together.
Elizabeth glided away,
Looking totally effortless,
From distance.

We both know
It did not stay effortless.
Very hard day!

Our three rest stops
Twelve miles apart,
Wisely spaced for
Riding effort preceding them.

First twelve miles,
Gradually, constantly uphill.
I geared down and moved slowly,
Up the 12 miles.

I received two great compliments
About my gearing option.
"Awesome gearing."
"You know how to pick the gears."

Anybody reading who knows
Bike mechanic, Curtis,
Please tell him.

All hung around first rest longer.
Everybody tired from long climb.
Took me two and half hours to climb those miles,
Inching up.

Second section
Steeper hills with some down.
Starting that tired,
I flagged SAG for last seven miles.
Such a smart move for me!

Third section
Rode until last two miles.
Different SAG giving me
Appreciated lift.

Next was down
For thirty miles
!I am proud of myself for riding it well.
I don't like steep downhills,
And I did this.

Temperature increase from 65 on top at Powder River Pass,
To 97 in Ten Sleep.
Like descending into layers of hot.

We three are tucked into little
Log cabin with bunk beds.
Soon our bikes will come inside, too.

All well at end of this very hard day.

Hugs,
Lin

Today's Limerick:
Though ridden by many without a fuss,
Today's ride so clearly was hard on us.
We came to this spot,
All wind-blown and hot.
You could say the day was quite arduous.

I am so grateful to read all of this!!

I remember many years ago being in Ten Sleep and having the BEST cup of coffee ever. They said it was due to the water, but maybe it was also the vista:-)

Love your stories. Keep pedaling.
