MN Mini-Tour: Day 5

LeRoy to Caledonia, MN: 60 miles

Sunday, September 25, 2016

First I'll correct yesterday's destination:
LeRoy, MN and the Sweets Hotel,
In case you are chasing us on map.
My typo.

Today started with Peggy Prowe, Bob and I together hotel dining room,
Seven a.m. breakfast—
Possible because Peggy
Specifically asked for early time,
Instead of usual eight.

Lesson here ...
Always ask.
Answer may be in your favor.

Peggy got on bike to ride back
To her car in Rose Creek.

Bob and I put panniers on bikes
For our day's ride.

Very good conditions.
Misty rain for fifteen minutes,
Clouds much of day,
Then sunshine and strong
Tailwind!

Tailwind made long mile day possible.
Without it,
We would be holed up in some
Barn along a road,
Gasping.

Lunch was in Harmony MN,
Excellent cafe called "Estelle's."
If you're in that area,
Stop and eat at Estelle's."

I had / nearly had, meltdown
After lunch when I realized that we'd ridden
Less than half of day's mileage.
Just didn't want to work that hard.

Fortunately,
That is when tailwind kicked in,
So rest of day was not hard.

Afternoon break sitting on sidewalk in
Spring Grove—first Norwegian settlement in MN.
State Park, sign, plaques mark that distinction.

Here in Caledonia MN,
Where organic frozen Sno Pac vegetables come from,
We are in large motel,
Fifty rooms at least.

We are ONLY guests for tonight.
Grateful they will stay open for us.
Very, very glad to be settled until tomorrow.

Hugs to all,
Lin

Limerick:
Today was a very long bike day,
I grumped about riding a long way.
Although I am "fried,"
I do feel some pride,
At having arrived here for this stay.

Halfway thru your adventure already! Sounds like there are challenges and “feel goods” as with every other trip….great people contacts! May you two find a tailwind in every day – real or imagined – to keep you uplifted! Hugs to you both 🙃 Love, me
