Home from Wyoming

Reflections on my recent "Big Thing."

Monday, August 7, 2017

Hello Friends,

Back home for five days.
Tending to tasks,
One-on-one time with a few,
Settling in after three weeks away.

Tour de Wyo offered me presentation / speaker-of-the-evening time.
Privilege to share story with group,
A first for me was encountering people from audience
During following ride days.

Often while standing in line,
"Are you that lady who talked?"
I would hear what stuck with them.
"I thought of that story you told.
It helped me get up that hill."

Often being “that-lady-who-talked,”
Gave permission for person to tell his / her story.
I got to hear some about some experience.

Made me realize—
We all have stories.
Hard times, challenges, joyful gains.
We just don't usually get to share them.

I was privileged listener,
Trusted with stories.

First morning after talk,
Grinding up big hill,
Woman pulled her bike next to mine.
"Let me tell you what happened!"

She had 12-yr-old son at home,
Signed up to leave for first time camp that day.
When spoke on phone,
Boy was scared, crying, too scared to go.

She told son she had heard this lady talk
About taking first bike trip when she was 60 yrs old.
Lady was scared, she cried, she went anyway.

Son listened, said,
"If that lady, that old, that scared could go,
I can go."

Next day report from the mom:
He had gone, was making friends, loving it.
(Now my friends, here is important piece,)
Boy said, "And Mom, I'm really proud of you for doing this bike trip!"

Those rich exchanges, beautiful scenery,
Joy of bike riding,
Satisfaction of moving through miles under my own steam;
It was good.

While West, there were happy visits.
My Uncle Bill, forever favorite.
Dear friends Karin and Ron, treasures for years.

Family reunion gathering 21 Bruces.
Bob, his living sister Peg, offspring of late sister Virginia.
Youngest generation from ages 29 to 3.
Wonderful, zooey time.

I've biked some.
Planning two day trip to Root River bike trail,
Biking and seeing family.
My favorite things!
Lucky me.

Hugs to each,
Lin

P.S. Sending wishes and encouragement that you, too, are doing your favorite things… Because it’s never too late to say “Yes” to bigger or favorite things!

What a role model you are! And how fortunate we are to have you as a friend!
I couldn’t find the video of your Signature Song… I need your help to find it.

What a beautiful thing you have done for me, Lin, in sharing your adventures in writing. You are a fine story teller! And the lovely photos, thanks to your steadfast companion, add so much color and illumination to your tales of exploration. Thank you, thank you, thank you, to you both, my favorite dynamic duo.
Gail
